General Characteristics

Length : Male :  2 to 3-1/2 feet in length / Female : 2 to 3-1/2 feet in length

Tail length :  11 - 19 cm

Weight : Male :16 to 28 pounds / Female : 10 to 18 pounds

Description

The bobcat is a medium-sized cat with a short, broad face set off by a ruff of fur extending from the ear down to the lower jaw. The prominent pointed ears possess short ear tufts at their tips. The backs of the ears are blackish with a centrally-located white spot. The fur is brownish to pale yellowish interspersed with gray and consists of a mixture of tawny hairs tipped with black and white. The chin and belly are whitish with dark spots. The short tail has a tip that is black only on the top.

Range - The bobcats are found from Canada through the United States, South to Mexico, and Yucatan Peninsula Forests.

Habitat - They live in Brush and grasslands in damp and dry regions.

Diet -They eat birds, hares, wild rabbits, other mammals up to size, and deer.

Status- In 1950 there were up to 600 bobcats in Canada,  Now there are only 500 remaining in the wild.

Reason for the status.- They are endangered because people are destroying its habitat by polluting, logging and hunting.

What type of animal is it - It is a  Carnivore. 

Gestation  period: 50 - 70 days

 Longevity period  : 6 - 8 years
