General Characteristics

Head to body length : 12.2 to 15.2 meters (40 to 50 feet)

Tail length : 13 meters

Description

This species is similar in both size and appearance with the Sei Whale, and the two are often confused. However, the Bryde's Whale is generally shorter, stocky and slender, with a well-defined dorsal fin set two-thirds back down the body. The tail stock is compressed, with broad, notched flukes, and pointed flippers. The body color is dark gray with some white coloration on the chin and throat, occasionally with paleness down the back between head and dorsal, extending down the flanks. Pock marks from parasites or small sharks add a mottled appearance, and there are two distinct ridges on the head, either side of the midline.  

Range - Bryde Whales are found in the Caribbean Sea, area's off equatorial, Southern Africa, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean, waters off Australia, and equatorial and temperate pacific waters.

Habitat - They live in worldwide in tropical to temperate waters rarely above latitudes of about 35 degrees.

Diet -  It eats  some seamounts, krill, and schooling fish.

Status - Some populations were seriously depleted as a result of whaling practices. If people arent they might become extinct.

Reason for the statusThis is because of commercial exploitation and trading.
