Length: 145 – 172 cm (65 -75 in )

Horn length: 33 – 40 cm (15 -18 in)

Tail length: 22- 30 cm (10 -12 in)

Shoulder height: 88 – 108 cm (40 – 50 in)

Weight:  40 -85 kg (88 – 187 lb)

Range: Sahara (from Mauritania to Sudan)

Habitat: Grasslands, Savanna and sub- desert steppes         

Diet: grass, shrubs

Status: Critically Endangered. Less than 500 indivuals left in the wild.  Population is slowly decreasing.

Reason for the status: Habitat loss, livestock

Gestation period: 5.5 – 6.0 months

Longevity: 12 years in the wild / 18 years in captivity
