General Characteristics Head to body Length : 75 - 100 cm ( 30 - 39 in ) Tail length : 45 - 50 cm (18 - 20 ) Weight : 45 - 60 kg (99-132 lb ) Description A huge armadillo. Coloration is dark brown with white on the head and lower shell. The carapae is flexible. Tail is powerful with closely set plates. The claws on the forefeet are huge, the third claw sickle-shaped. Fairly agile and often balances itself on its hind feet and tail with its forefeet off the ground. Range - Armadillos live in South America. Now it lives as far north as Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Louisiana. Habitat - Its territory is brush, woods, scrub, and grasslands. Diet - It eats insects, other invertebrates, occasionally berries and bird eggs. Status - Except the nine banded armadillo species every other armadillo species is declining.
