General Characteristics

Head to body Length : 20-36 cm (8 to 14 inches)

Tail Length :31-40 cm  (12 to 15 inches)

Height : 12 inches long

Weight :   13.5-25 ounces (380-700 g)

Description 

Golden-Headed Lion Tamarins are small monkeys. They weigh about as much as a gray squirrel. They have golden fur on their heads, tails and arms. The rest of their body is black. They are very playful and run around a lot. They are funny to watch. Their two middle fingers are webbed together. This helps the Tamarin get insects and grab branches when taking long leaps.

Range - The Golden Lion Tamarin lives in lowland, coastal region in southeastern Brazil.

Habitat -  They live in dense forest and tropical rainforest.

Diet -     It eats spiders, snails, small lizards, eggs, small birds, fruits and vegetables.

Status - Now there is only 400 left in the wild.

Reason for the status - This is because because of habitat destruction. This animal is really rare out of all the animals.

What type of animal is it -   It is an Omnivore.

  Gestation : 132-134 days
