Their fur is mostly white on the underside below the neck, and their ears have long white hairs on the tips. The koala resembles a bear, but is actually a marsupial, a special kind of mammal which carries its young in a pouch. Range - The Koala lives in E. Australia. Habitat - It lives in dry forests . Diet - It eats leaves, shoots, and eucalyptus. Status - The food and homes (the eucalyptus) are not protected. The koalas’ current range is the eucalyptus woodland of eastern, southeastern and southern Australia. Millions of koalas were killed for their pelts. In addition, dogs were killing 4,000 wild koalas each year. Reason for the status - This is because of habitat destruction of eucalyptus areas due to deforestation.
