General Characteristics

Description

Long legs, small head and large mobile ears

Spotted coat

Length : Male :  1.5 to 2 feet

Weight : Male :20 to 40 pounds 

Range - Sub-Saharan grasslands of Africa, as far south as Botswana and northern South Africa, Morocco and Tunisia

Habitat - grasslands

Diet - Hunts small mammals, birds, lizards, snakes and large insects

Status- There used to be 10,000 serval. Now  this species of serval is extinct in the region of Cape Province of South Africa

Reason for the status.- using the fur for trading, and habitat destruction

What type of animal is it - It is a  Carnivore. 

Gestation Period - 65 - 75 days

Lifespan - up to 20 years
