General Characteristics Male : 4.5 feet / Female :3.5 feet Height : Male : 5 feet (1.6 m ) / Female : 3.5 feet ( 1 m ) Weight : ( males ) 200lbs and more (Female) 110 pounds Description : Orangutans have long reddish-brown hair, very long arms and a large, heavy body. Adult males have large cheek pouches. They have an opposable thumb and big toe and long fingers and toes. Range - Orangutan lives in North Sumatra and most of lowland Borneo. Habitat- It lives in lowland and hilly tropical rainforest, including forested area and peat-swamp forest. Diet - It eats fruits such as mangoes, Lychees, Rambutans, Jackfruit and figs. What type of animal is it - It is a herbivore. Status - The orangutan has been reducing in both ranges and numbers for many years and is now in danger of becoming extinct. Reason for this status - They are decreasing in numbers quickly as they lose habitat to people.
