General characteristics

Length  : Male : 91-104 inches / Female : 87-95 inches

Weight : Male : 287 - 386 lbs / Female : 221-254 lbs

Description 

South Chinese tigers have shorter and broader stripes that are farther apart than those of the Bengal and Siberian tiger.

Range - The South China tiger is found in central and eastern China.

Habitat -Tigers live in remote forests in hilly to mountainous terrain, much of which lies along the borders between countries. 

Diet - They eat wild pig, wild deer and wild cattle.

Status - There are used to be 4,000 of this species. There are only 20-30 remaining  in the wild and Currently 47 South China tigers live in 18 zoos, all in China.

Reason for the status -Tiger population has been reducing since the early part of 20th century, and the situation is getting worse even now. This is because of habitat destruction , poaching, and using tiger fur for trading.

What type of animal is it - It is a  Carnivore.

Gestation  period  : 103 days

 Longevity period  : 10 - 15 years in the wild
