The tree shrew is a small squirrel like mammals

They live in some Asian tropical forest .

They eat insects, worms, small vertebrates and fruits

Their sharp claws and splayed toes keep a firm grip on bark and rock alike while a long tail helps with balance.

They eat  holding food in their hands and may sit on their haunches, alert for enemies such as birds of prey, snakes and mongooses.

They spend most of the time in trees.

Most are semi- terrestrial.

Some rarely venture into trees at all.

There are 19 species.
