They have a broad chest, muscular neck, and strong hands and feet. Short, thin, gray-black to brown-black hair covers the entire body except the face. A thick ridge of bone juts out above the eye and the nostrils are flared. In comparison to mountain gorillas, western lowland gorillas have wider and larger skulls. Also, the big toe of western lowland gorilla individuals is spread far apart from the alignment of the remaining four toes, when compared to the alignment in mountain gorillas Range -The western lowland gorilla is found in western Africa, from southern Nigeria to the Congo River. Habitat - They live in tropical rainforest. Coat : Western gorillas are covered in relatively dense, moderate length hair that varies in color from black to grayish or brown. Adult males, also called silverbacks, have light gray, silvery hair which extends from the nape, across their shoulders and down their backs. In some males this silver hair extends onto their thighs as well. Males also have a crest on top of the heads which is usually a deep red, chestnut color. The cheeks and nose are hairless.
